Love this ad. Check it.

To the best of my knowledge this ad didn’t actually run in airplanes, but was made to look like it did.  This got me thinking, why don’t see ad placement in planes? I’ve never seen a single one myself. It’s a pretty great scenario: you have a captive and sedentary audience, they’re pre-qualified (as travelers, and if you target ads by seating class then you can target specific spending brackets), and if advertising could help defray the cost of a ticket then I’m sure in-air advertising would be more than palatable to consumers.

UPDATE: I found an exact duplicate of the concept but by Ogilvy. Both ads were created in 2008 so I’m not sure which came first, but its clear someone borrowed from the other.

Ogilvy’s version:

They ought to offer an overlay to add hair to the legs. Or have a pheromone sniffing device linked into the seat cushion, and an LCD display with the gender appropriate graphic.

Great ad! As a marketer I would love to present this option in my media plans to the client. It is a great way to reach a particular demographic and who wouldn’t like a break in their ticket price when flying?!
