This one’s a quickie, because all I want to do is direct you over to CNN Money to read Anne Fisher’s post, “Keep Your Job: A 10-Point Survival Guide.”
It doesn’t matter where you work or what your position is or how secure you think your job is; in this recession nobody is inherently safe from “strategic workforce reductions.”
You need to earn your pay every day and continually reaffirm your worth in your employer’s eyes, and even then there are no guarantees. If you don’t believe me, ask some of the Microsoft employees who were let go with fabulous performance ratings if ever thought they’d find themselves on the chopping block.
Without further ado, here’s a quick snapshot of Anne’s 10-point survival guide, but the full article is absolutely worth a read.
1. Create successes for yourself
2. Set 30-day and 60-day goals
3. Watch your attitude
4. Keep your network active
5. Update your skills
6. Make sure your work serves the larger goals of the organization
7. For now, forget about work-life balance
8. Take a hard look at your finance
9. Never badmouth anyone
10. Remember, in the knowledge economy, you are the product. So take care of yourself. Get enough sleep, eat right, and take time to work out a few times a week.
