Post image for The Best Articles We’ve Read This Week: The Feb 13 Hit List

This is the first in a series of Friday posts in which we’ll cover the best articles we’ve read all week.  Most will be new, some will be old, but hopefully they’ll all be useful. The list isn’t huge and it isn’t exhaustive, because if it were there’d be no chance you’d read them all.

Marketing

via SixRevisions.com: 50 Excellent Icon Design Tutorials
Summary: 2/11/09 An insanely thorough selection of tutorials and resources to teach you about designing icons.

via SEOBook.com: 101 Link Building Strategies
Summary: This list is a little old, but there’s a heck of a lot of non-traditional ideas on it.  I like to think I know a good deal about link building, but I came across many strategies I had never ever remotely considered (e.g. Join your local Chamber of Commerce.)

via ThoughShallBlog.com: 7 Habits of Highly Effective One Way Link Building
Summary: 10/15/08 I guess I’m on a link-building kick, but here’s another great article on getting quality/trusted inbound links.

Summary: Pretty self explanatory, right?

Twitter

Summary: This post lists 10 types of tools you’ll need, and then offers several recommended products for each.

Web / Blogging

Summary: “What are the seven most important words associated with Web-marketing? I’ll give you a hint: Search, engine, and optimization don’t make the cut.”

Small Business

Summary: Recently, the IRS released a list of 11 important changes that affect business tax returns for 2008, this article highlights the key changes.

News

via EurekaAlert.org: Canadian Scientists Read Mind with Infrared Scan and via NeuroScienceMarketing.com: Identifying Preferences with Infrared Brain Imaging
Summary: 2/10/09 “Researchers at Canada’s largest children’s rehabilitation hospital have developed a technique that uses infrared light brain imaging to decode preference – with the goal of ultimately opening the world of choice to children who can’t speak or move.”

Shameless Self Promotion

via The Daily Anchor: A Conversation  With Twitter Co-Founder Jack Dorsey
Summary: Okay, apparently I didn’t have the self restraint to keep Daily Anchor posts out of this list, but I feel this merits inclusion: This week Ella Keeven and I landed a meeting with Jack Dorsey, Twitter’s co-founder and Chairman of the Board, and it led to a pretty great conversation about the story behind Twitter and how they plan to monetize the site.

Images

via AngryAsianMan.com:
Summary: “So what is the deal with this: Google Suggest Thinks The Internet Is “Terrified Of Chinese People.” Are there really hordes of Google users out there who are indeed terrified of Chinese people? And if there are, what exactly are they hoping to find by doing a Google search for their fear. Here’s what you get when you search for it: i am extremely terrified of chinese people. Ooga booga.”

via Gizmodo: Starbucks Is Not Your Office
Summary: “Ridiculous image taken at a Starbucks on 42nd and 9th. Yeah, it’s a guy with a Mac Mini and a 15-inch LCD.”
